Next Tuesday, it will be 80 years to the day since Japan officially surrendered and World War Two came to an end. Records show that 304,100 Minnesotan men and women fought for their country in that war against Imperial Japan, Fascist Italy, and Nazi Germany, of which 9,797 died, equivalent to about 23,000 people from today’s population.
Next Tuesday, the USS Ward gun, with which Minnesotans fired America’s first shot of World War Two, will be moved to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. The Minnesota Military & Veteran Museum will be hosting an event at 11am at the Veterans Service Building in Saint Paul to commemorate that Great Generation of Minnesotans. If you can, please join them.
