Decline is a choice

DO NOT USE AS COVER IMAGE, shows up poorly on social media

Perusing the platform of the Democratic Socialists of America.(DSA), you should believe them when they tell you who they are.

I recommend that you watch the entire 59-minute Rick Kupchella documentary A Precarious State. Watch it here. Kupchella, the former KARE-11 anchor, documents the decline and fall of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

He notes that the Minneapolis city council is under the control of the local chapter of DSA. At one point Kupchella poses the question, “Have you read the DSA platform?”

Here are some quotes from the 2024 DSA platform,

Billionaires control access to basic human needs like housing, healthcare, and education and make a profit off of them. This capitalist economic system is the cause of violence, unemployment, and a climate crisis that poses an existential threat to life on earth…

Accelerating declines in living standards are exploited by the Christian nationalist right and figures like Donald Trump…

The far-right threatens Americans’ civil liberties…

[W]e hope to build a socialist society where people come before profit, basic needs are guaranteed, the largest corporations are put under public ownership…

As for policy specifics, a few lowlights

  • Universal health care
  • Abolish cash bail and minimum sentences
  • Free college
  • Rent control
  • Higher taxes
  • Green new deal
  • Free Palestine
  • Open borders

And on and on and on. There isn’t a single civilization-destroying policy choice that’s been ommitted from the DSA list.

Decline is a choice.

The Kupchella documentary has received some notice in local media. The program aired lst week on five local ABC affiliates.
