Minnesota Man: tools of the trade

Marlon Irias-Duarte is our Minnesota Man of the Day. On Friday, Irias made a first appearance in federal court having been indicted back in May on a felony count of illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien. Court records show a previous deportation back in January 2011.

A defendant matching that name was arrested back in May and charged with two felony counts related to burglary. That Irias Duarte is officially listed as aged 34 and homeless.

He was found trespassing at a south Minneapolis construction site.

He was convicted a year ago (October 2024) of a felony burglary charge, arising from an unrelated incident. That crime occurred at a different south Minneapolis construction site in January 2024. He pled guilty to the felony under a plea deal.

His sentence was stayed with no (0) jail time and three years of probation. Probation violations were alleged almost immediately, in November 2025 and then again in June 2025. Nothing was done.

He has pled guilty in the latest burglary case, where state prosecutors have agreed to yet another stayed sentence. His official sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, October 29, in downtown Minneapolis.

That date may prove to be a problem for Mr. Irias, as he is scheduled to be in federal court in downtown St. Paul late that same morning. Making both dates may prove tricky.

But he’s missed state court dates before without any consequences, so I wouldn’t worry about it.
