Last Friday, the state of Minnesota formally revoked the license of a long-closed and allegedly fraudulent substance abuse clinic, Evergreen Recovery, Inc. of St. Paul.
At this point, the revocation is moot, as the Midway-based clinic was effectively shut down in the summer of 2024 after a series of KARE-11 reports alleging some $28 million in overbilling by the clinic.
In December 2024, three Evergreen executives were indicted on fraud charges. Two defendants pled guilty last month. The third, Evergreen co-owner Shawn Grygo, is due to make an appearance in federal court in downtown Minneapolis on November 19.
The carcass of the corporate entity Evergreen Recovery is due in court on November 24 to distribute some back wages owed to former Evergreen employees.
In the criminal case, Grygo is facing forfeiture of real estate and a long list (785 items, I’m not kidding) of jewelry and accessories (Chanel, Coach, Dior Fendi, Gucci, Hermes, Hermes (Birkin), Louis Vuitton, Rolex, Tiffany, and other top names). Just listing the items, single spaced, takes 22 pages.
The above items were included in a list filed by prosecutors last Friday (November 7).
That same day, MN DHS revoked the license of a second clinic associated with Grygo, Ethos Recovery Clinic of Spring Lake Park.
Better late than never, I guess.
