Minnesota Man of the Day

Robin Jayderi (or Javier) Marroquin-Pineda of Guatemala, age 29, is our Minnesota Man of the Day for November 25. He’s one of our OG’s in the Minnesota Man series, having been indicted back in February. He is due in federal court in downtown Minneapolis this afternoon to be sentenced.

He was indicted on one count of illegal reentry of a previously deported alien. He was last sent back to Guatemala in June 2023 following a drunk driving case. He was previously convicted of a felony for child sex solicitation in a 2017 case and also deported back then, as well. He requires the use of a Spanish-language interpreter for all court appearances.

The 2017 case involved Marroquin sending pictures of his genitalia, via SnapChat, to three middle-school girls. There’s more, but in the interests of decorum, I’ll leave it at that. Apparently, Marroquin was a cousin of a fourth girl at that same middle school.

He pled guilty to illegal reentry back in June, and the sentencing guidelines call for spending around a year in prison. The defense is requesting a sentence of time served and have filed in court the usual tale of woe. Marroquin is a father, himself, and thus qualifies as a Minnesota Dad.

The defense claims that Marroquin was the victim of a 2024 stabbing in south Minneapolis. Perhaps he should have stayed in Guatemala following the second deportation.

Prosecutors are requesting additional prison time.

Also due in federal court (this morning, in St. Paul) is Jonathan Andres Cruz-Esteva, also age 29. On just about any other Tuesday, Cruz would have taken Man of the Day honors.

He’s in court for a detention hearing. He was indicted back in July for felony illegal reentry of a previously deported alien. Court records indicate that he was convicted earlier of that same felony crime back in 2021. He also has a drugs conviction dating to 2019. Court records list three aliases for Mr. Cruz and a third prior deportation. There are also several drunk driving cases, but who’s counting.

Cruz appears to have gotten back on the radar following a felony arrest (pled down to a misdemeanor) back in May.

We’ll have more Minnesota men next week. Stay tuned!
