Goldwater Launches $300K Landmark American Civics Initiative

After nearly 40 years of fighting for freedom in courtrooms and capitols across the country, the Goldwater Institute is launching a $300,000 landmark American Civics Initiative to help teach America’s founding principles to future generations.

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Van Sittert Center for Constitutional Advocacy of the Goldwater Institute is offering two major funding & resource opportunities for Arizona’s students, teachers and schools as part of the Goldwater American Civics Initiative:

  • The Excellence in Civics Education School District Grant Program: This initiative will award up to $300,000 in support of a selected public school district, charter school network, and/or private school via new textbooks, $3,000 per teacher stipends, paid professional development offered by university faculty & veteran Arizona public school social studies teachers, and more to support instruction in U.S. history & government. Apply here.
  • The Arizona Civics Scholars Program: This initiative will award renewable scholarships up to $1,500 to 50 graduating high school seniors and college students who enroll in partnering higher education programs focused on civics, public policy, constitutionalism, and/or classical education, including the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership (SCETL) at Arizona State University and other public or private programs. Apply here.

Goldwater’s American Civics Initiative furthers the Institute’s mission by promoting an understanding, appreciation, and support for the U.S. Constitution among future generations.

“As America approaches its 250th anniversary, the question isn’t just how we celebrate our past, but whether we’re preparing the next generation to preserve it,” said Matt Beienburg, Director of Van Sittert Center for Constitutional Advocacy and Director of Education Policy at the Goldwater Institute. “Goldwater’s American Civics Initiative is about passing on the knowledge necessary to keep self-government alive.”
