Raided daycare owned by fmr. city councilman

The Minnesota Star Tribune reports on one of the 22 businesses raided by the FBI yesterday,

One center, A Plus Universal Child Care and Learning Center in Shakopee, which was not highlighted by [YouTuber Nick] Shirley, was among the businesses raided Tuesday by the FBI, owner Kassim Busuri said.

Busuri, who was the first Somali American City Council member in St. Paul, has condemned Trump’s comments broadly painting Somali Americans as engaged in fraud. He told the Minnesota Star Tribune in November that Somalis “follow the rules and regulations that are set by the state” and have become thriving businesspeople through honest work.

The FBI executed a search warrant at Busari’s business yesterday. Neither A Plus nor Busari has been charged with any crime.

State records show that A Plus was founded in 2018 with Busuri as the main contact person. Licensing records show violations at A Plus for the past four years. The facility is permitted for up to 113 children.

State payments records show that A Plus has received more than $118,000 in the past couple of years,

Corporate records show a number of other active businesses listed in Busuri’s name, including AccessCare Minnesota, Busuri Brothers, and WhiteStar Property Management.

In January 2019, MinnPost reported on Busuri’s appointment to the St. Paul city council. Busuri was appointed by then-Mayor Melvin Carter and the council to finish out the final year of an unexpired term representing Ward 6. In an interview, Busuri told MinnPost that he was born in Mogadishu, Somalia.

To repeat, Busuri has not been accused of any wrong doing.
