Erick Jorge Diego Alvarez-Henandez, age 46, was arraigned on two felony counts last week in federal court in downtown St. Paul. The first count addressed his re-entry to America after a previous deportation. The second count addressed his failure to register as a convicted felon sex offender.
His registry failure arises from a March 2024 conviction on three felony counts of 2nd-degree criminal sexual conduct. His victims were sisters (not his own children), ages 8 and 9. He apparently had served as godfather to the older sister. The incidents occurred in 2022 and earlier.
At the time, the defendant was residing in Brooklyn Park. In a bench trial, Alvarez was convicted on three of four felony counts. Sentencing occurred in March 2024 and Alvarez was deported in May 2024.
At some point Alvarez made his way back to America and back to Minnesota, apparently around September 2024. Hennepin County jail records indicate that he was arrested by local police in Rogers on July 30 and released on August 6. His federal indictment was filed on August 26. He is being held in the federal lockup in the Sherburne County jail.
His next federal court appearance is scheduled for October 23.
