Feeding Our Future: 73rd defendant

From the U.S. Attorney’s press release,

Hussein Mohamed Farah, the executive director of New Vision Foundation, a non-profit located in St. Paul, Minnesota, was charged by information with one count of wire fraud for his role in the $300 million Feeding Our Future fraud scheme.

Farah becomes the 73rd defendant, overall, in the sprawling free-food scandal. Farah’s being charged via “information,” rather than a compliant or an indictment, indicates that he intends to plead guilty in the case.

We had previously detailed the backstory of New Vision Foundation, Farah’s food operation, and his connections to other Feeding Our Future figures in posts here and here. The FBI raided the Foundation’s offices in St. Paul back in May. A photo from the FBI search warrant.

The U.S. Attorney reports that the Foundation took some $2.7 million out of the free-food program in just under a year. At present, no dates have been scheduled for a Farah court appearance.

In their reporting of Farah, the Sahan Journal includes an interesting detail,

[Farah] served on Sahan Journal’s board of directors from 2018 to 2024. He deferred comment to his attorneys, including Abdinasir M. Abdulahi, who also served on Sahan’s board from 2018 to 2022.

If and when Farah does formally enter a guilty plea in the case, he will join a long and growing list of convictions in the case. On Monday, Aug. 11, Guhaad Hashi Said, defendant No. 27, is scheduled to enter guilty plea No. 45 and become the 52nd individual convicted in the scandal.

Earlier this week, Abdiaziz Farah, defendant No. 15, become the 5th person, overall, tp be sentenced in the case. He received a 28-year prison term.

And more to come!
