Feeding Our Future: stumbling to conviction #64

A funny thing happened on the way to conviction No. 64 in the sprawling free-food scandal. Defendant Suleman Yusuf Mohamed has had his guilty plea hearing rescheduled some three times.

The ever-alert Lou Raguse of KARE-11 tracked down the reason why. According to federal court filings,

On Monday, what was supposed to have been a rescheduled plea agreement hearing for Mohamed turned into a detention hearing. Mohamed was sent to the federal lockup at Sherburne County jail.

His plea hearing has been rescheduled (again) to Thursday, April 2, the next of many upcoming events in the broader Feeding Our Future case.

Suleman is Defendant No. 64 in the case, overall (out of 79). He was indicted with his sister Ikram Mohamed and several other members of the extended Mohamed family in an indictment filed in January 2024.

If his plea does comes off on Thursday, he will become (coincidentally) the 64th conviction in the case, overall. A brother of Suleman and Ikram, Gandi Mohamed, continues to plead not guilty and is scheduled for trial on April 20.

Fingers crossed!
