In an unusual holiday-weekend session, the U.S. District Court in Minnesota is open for business, hurriedly adding new habeas corpus petitions to the docket to prevent more illegal aliens from being deported.
So far on this Saturday morning (January 17), eight new habeas cases have been reported. Last weekend (January 10-11) no cases were reported of any type. The previous four-day weekend (January 1-4), zero cases were reported.
As of today, 226 habeas petitions have been filed in Federal District Court in Minnesota since the beginning of the calendar year. That number represents 56 percent of all the 401 civil cases filed with the court in 2026.
Expressed a different way, in 2025, it took until February 3 before we reached civil case No. 401, of all types.
In my experience, federal bureaucrats don’t work weekends. Much less holiday weekends. Much less cold, snowy holiday weekends.
Thanks?
