Francisco Estrada-Deltaro was sentenced today in federal court in downtown Minneapolis.
We’ve written about Estrada several times now. He’s that restaurateur whose Lake Street eatery was at the epicenter of a mini-riot back in June, when federal officers executed a court-approved search warrant of the place. The warrant related to one of the 900-lb. meth busts that occurred in that time period.
Estrada pled guilty earlier this month to a felony count of illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien. In his case, the sentencing guidelines called for a prison term of between 8 and 14 months, on account of his two (2) previous felony convictions.
Estrada’s defense attorney notes that he’s spent nearly four months in federal custody following his early June arrest. Arguing for a sentence of time served, the attorney notes that such a sentence would expedite Estrada’s deportation (his fourth) back to his native Mexico.
In the end, the judge opted for the low end of the guidelines and sentenced Estrada to 8 months in prison.
