Minnesota Woman of the Week

A very rare instance where we award Minnesota Woman of the Week honors.

Our story begins in June 2024, when the above Minnesota Identification Card was issued to one Mercedes Myreeh Solis. The woman pictured in the ID is not Solis, but Magdalena Alejo-Blas. Alejo also had a social security card in the name of Solis.

Police in Waite Park arrested our defendant back in August. It turns out that the real Mercedes Solis has an active arrest warrant out of Texas. While executing that warrant, police discovered that Minnesota’s Solis is not the real one.

Alejo was handed over to ICE, as she is an illegal alien. Alejo was indicted on eight counts in federal court. Seven counts relate to the identity theft, with the eighth count addressing her illegal entry into the United States. She is a citizen of Mexico. She was employed in the food service industry.

On September 18, 2025, she was ordered to be deported by Immigration Court. On a number of government forms, Alejo claimed to be an American citizen.

These are the facts that I do not know:

  • Has Alejo been deported?
  • Is she registered to vote in Minnesota?
    • If so, did she vote in the 2024 presidential election?
  • Does the Minnesota DMV do any background checking? Any at all?
  • Who is Mercedes Solis?

So many questions for our Woman of the Week.
