Minnesota educators now have another option for liability coverage and professional services through the Teacher Freedom Alliance (TFA), a new network for teachers interested in an alternative to government unions.
Members receive access to union-like benefits without the politics — and for free. Resources include $2 million liability insurance for teachers and student teachers, job action protection, legal defense for false claims, coverage for school-sanctioned activities like tutoring and after-school programs, access to alternative curricula, and professional development credit hours, to name a few.
“The Teacher Freedom Alliance is the alternative to the teachers’ unions,” says Aaron Withe, president of TFA. “We assist teachers in their mission to develop free, moral and upright citizens. We are doing this by providing professional services.”
Since the network’s launch in March, over 2,500 teachers have become members, according to the TFA website.
Other nonpolitical union alternatives that offer $2 million liability insurance and additional resources and benefits include the Association of American Educators and Christian Educators, both of which have Minnesota members across the state.
Teachers who don’t feel represented by the union — and there are a number of them! — have found affordable alternatives when it comes to liability coverage and other protection. With the September union opt-out window just around the corner, Minnesota educators can learn more and create their customized opt-out letter here.
