Reducing the temperature

There have been a growing number of organizations and political leaders calling for a reset in communication and coordination surrounding Operation Metro Surge.

One of the more focused calls came from Minnesota Senator Zack Duckworth (R), Lakeville in a post on X.

“We’re long overdue for a tactical pause. Leaders at all levels need to assess the current situation for what it is, not what they want it to be. Take the temperature & rhetoric down, allow for a reset, de-escalate, adjust tactics, realign with the core mission – keeping us safe.”

I called for executive level law enforcement leaders, and state and federal political leaders, to stop attempting course correction via competing press conferences. Instead, I called for those leaders to meet face to face and begin communicating and coordinating for the first time – a move that would benefit not only their respective causes, but the law enforcement officers and public caught in the middle.

This morning President Trump and Governor Walz took the first step towards turning the temperature down. It came in phone call that both described as positive.

President Trump will be sending Tom Homan, US Border Czar, to Minnesota to coordinate the federal effort, including more communication with Governor Walz and Minnesota law enforcement.

According to Governor Walz, he emphasized with the President the need for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to be involved in the investigation into Saturday’s shooting death by Border Patrol agents of Alex Pretti, and for a reduction in the number of agents carrying out Operation Metro Surge.

This welcome news comes amid a troubling backdrop of Antifa based groups operating in Minneapolis with the sole purpose of ensuring continued chaos.  The mission of these groups has been to locate, antagonize, confront, and obstruct agents as they attempt to enforce immigration law.  These groups have also swarmed and ransacked hotels thought to be catering to agents, held daily protests to obstruct ICE efforts in and around the immigration courthouse at the Federal Whipple Building near Fort Snelling, taken over streets and neighborhoods in Minneapolis, and called for armed resistance to the ICE effort in Minneapolis.

Minnesotan’s need to support legitimate efforts to lessen the temperature and to reset the immigration enforcement effort.  For this to work, Minnesotans must also reject those who are trying to stoke chaos and take advantage of the situation to destabilize legitimate law and order.

Minnesotans need this initial conversation between Trump and Walz to seed more conversation and cooperation down through the ranks. Only then will illegitimate forces like Antifa be properly marginalized.
