Bill Description: Senate Bill 1360 would increase vehicle registration fees.
Rating: -1
Does it directly or indirectly create or increase any taxes, fees, or other assessments? Conversely, does it eliminate or reduce any taxes, fees, or other assessments?
Senate Bill 1360 would amend Section 49-454, Idaho Code, to increase a supplemental vehicle registration fee called the “project choice program fee” from $3.00 to $8.00, an increase of 167%.
NOTE: The bill’s statement of purpose and fiscal note reference an even larger increase from $3.00 to $12.00, which would be an increase of 300%. The fiscal note claims a “$9.00 registration fee increase” would transfer an additional $18 million from individuals to government. Assuming consistent math, the $5.00 registration fee increase contained in the bill would take an additional $10 million from Idaho drivers.
