Sowing and reaping

For most of 2025 democrat politicians from former Vice-Presidential candidate and current Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to a variety of democrat members of congress to California Governor Gavin Newsome have levelled a nearly non-stop campaign aimed at disparaging Immigration, Customs, and Border Patrol agents as fascists, Nazis, the Gestapo, secret police, and the KGB. The effort has served to dehumanize the agents, making assaults and attempts on their lives not only more likely, but predictable.

ICE Border Czar Tom Homman warned in May that if the rhetoric didn’t stop it was likely to lead to more violence leveled against ICE agents.

As of September 2025, ICE officials reported that assaults against ICE agents had increased in 2025 by 1000% over the same time last year.

Yesterday marked the third significant attack on an ICE facility in Texas since July.  On July 4th ten suspects ambushed agents outside an ICE facility in Alvarado, resulting in a responding law enforcement officer being shot in the neck.  On July 7th a lone suspect fired at agents and other law enforcement outside a border security station in McAllen.  One officer was struck in the leg before agents returned fire killing the suspect.

Yesterday’s attack took place at an ICE detention facility in Dallas.  A 29-year-old Texan male opened fire with a bolt action WWII era rifle from a rooftop, spraying the detention facility with gunfire. Three detainees were struck.  One was killed and two others were in critical condition. The shooter committed suicide as agents closed in on his location.

The FBI has released information indicating the suspect had written “Anti-Ice” on a clip of bullets found laying at the scene of the shooting. Other evidence suggests the suspect accessed information about ICE facility locations, and that he wrote a note indicating his hope was to cause the ICE agents terror.

The disregard for the violence that anti-ICE rhetoric has incited is unconscionable. Federal law enforcement is unlikely to continue sitting back and being ambushed indefinitely before they take legal action against those inciting the very violence they claim to condemn.
