Minnesota Man on the rampage

Jeffrey Lopez-Suazo wins Minnesota Man of the Day honors for December 3. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in downtown St. Paul this afternoon for a detention hearing.

He’s been in federal custody since November 25 following a well-publicized incident in St. Paul. David Zimmer covers the incident here, which featured organized protests against ICE. The St. Paul Pioneer Press provides a report here which discusses the involvement of local city police during the incident.

The Pioneer Press reported from the scene,

As nearly 200 gathered outside a St. Paul home Tuesday when federal agents took a man into custody, protesters confronted federal and local law enforcement who responded with pepper spray and projectiles.

On the morning of November 25, ICE (with a warrant) went looking for a Honduran national illegal alien. Instead of the subject of their search, they found two other individuals, including Mr. Lopez. Both fled separably from the scene, via different automobiles.

ICE attempted a traffic stop of Mr. Lopez, with flashing police lights, during which Lopez is alleged to have rammed an ICE vehicle.

He was formally indicted yesterday with one count of assaulting a federal officer and one count of illegal entry of an alien. In his court appearances, Lopez requires the use of a Spanish-language interpreter.
