Today at the Federal courthouse in downtown Minneapolis, two sentences are scheduled to be handed down in the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal. Judge Nancy Brasel is set to preside over both.
Up first is Sharmake Jama, the lead defendant of the extended Jama family group, who operated the Brava Restaurant in Rochester. He is defendant No. 39 (out of 79, overall) in the case and was No. 32 convicted (out of 65).
Prosecutors had requested a prison sentence of 51 months, a little over four years. The defense requested a downward departure from the sentencing guidelines, without specifying a sentence length.
Jama’s plea agreement, filed back in January 2025, included sentencing guidelines of 48 to 57 months, roughly 4 to 5 years.
Additionally, forfeiture of a significant dollar amount is expected to be ordered. Items forfeited include real estate in Rochester and Rosemount, a GMC truck, and cash seized from bank accounts.
Her pleas agreement, filed back in December 2023, included a sentencing guideline of 33 to 41 month in prison, call it 3 years.
Filsan Hassan is scheduled to be sentenced in the afternoon. She was indicted as part of the S&S Catering group of defendants and is defendant No. 26 overall and entered guilty plea No. 15, overall.
Hassan’s sentencing date was moved up after she failed a series of drug tests over the past year or so.
