The forgotten $25 million

KARE-11 reports,

A hidden $25 million? New twist in Minnesota Medicaid fraud case

It’s an “old” fraud case, Evergreen Recovery, dating from 2024.

Evergreen is accused of stealing tens of millions from Medicaid, through an addiction treatment business formerly located in the Midway area of St. Paul. The lead figure in the case, Shawn Grygo, is set to face trial in November. KARE-11 reports,

Evergreen Recovery co-owner David Backus recently told his attorney there is a $25 million certificate of deposit (CD) that should be included among the company’s assets.

Neither federal prosecutors nor the court-appointed receiver tasked with locating Evergreen’s assets knew about the account.

Backus is Grygo’s husband, and he has never been charged in the case. KARE-11 put together a video report on the new revelations and it was picked up by the Twitter (X) account Wall Street Apes.

The post has received more than 1 million views.

KARE-11 broke the original story on Evergreen, which has spawned two federal cases. I’ve been following along for more than two yesrs.
