Every election year, the DFL’s dark money group Alliance for a Better Minnesota (ABM) fills up their bank account with out of state money and uses it to go after Republicans running for office in Minnesota. ABM’s recent target is Republican Attorney General candidate Ron Schutz. Schutz should be honored by this attention, a clear sign the DFL enterprise is worried Minnesota voters are going to fire Keith Ellison for meeting with Feeding Our Future fraudsters, promising to help them, and then receiving campaign donations as a quid-pro-quo.
ABM’s shot at Shutz consists of a guilt-by-association attack on Center of the American Experiment, Minnesota’s largest grassroots organization. Schutz has been a long-time board member of American Experiment.
ABM’s weak attack requires the reader to follow a string of associations that runs from Schutz supporting American Experiment, to American Experiment supporting other groups, to those other groups saying or doing things ABM thinks Minnesota voters would find objectionable.
Their first claim is that American Experiment supports the Horowitz Freedom Center. ABM claims Horowitz is a “designated hate group.” Designated by whom, exactly? The discredited Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a criminal enterprise. As Catrin Wigfall writes here, the SPLC is currently drowning under the weight of 11 federal indictments.
Last month, a federal grand jury in Montgomery, Ala. indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) on 11 criminal counts — wire fraud, false statements to a federally insured bank, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The Justice Department’s allegation is disturbing. For nearly 10 years, between 2014 and 2023, the SPLC “secretly funneled more than $3 million in donated funds to individuals who were associated with various violent extremist groups including the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations, and the National Socialist Party of America.” Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche summed it up in plain terms: “The SPLC is manufacturing racism to justify its existence.”
The Horowitz Freedom Center appearing on a bogus list from the discredited hate group Southern Poverty Law Center tells us nothing about what kind of attorney general Ron Shutz would be for Minnesota.
ABM’s second claim criticizes American Experiment’s occasional collaboration with Turning Point USA and its founder Charlie Kirk. That association also misses the mark. We are proud of our support for Charlie Kirk’s work, especially how he engaged with those who disagreed with him on college campuses across the county. That is, until he was gunned down by a leftist for daring to speak out.
Alliance for a Better Minnesota collects dark money from outside Minnesota, funnels it through a confusing web of nonprofits, and then spends it to keep Democrats in power. Minnesotans should treat their latest smear attack on American Experiment for what it is, a desperate attempt to protect a weak candidate.
